The girls’ JV1 soccer team practices and plays together on Isham field six days a week from September to November, playing games on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The team plays at a highly competitive level and is comprised of 11th, 10th, and 9th graders. We hold tryouts to select the team beginning on the first day of classes. Many of the players have risen through the program from the JV2 squad, and some move up to the varsity team in subsequent seasons. The team spends many practice hours working to improve ball-handling skills, developing a better first touch on the ball, and gaining confidence in taking on opponents in one-on-one situations. The team works out the keepers with shooting drills, either receiving crosses in the air, taking diving headers, or just pounding away with their instep drives.

Coming together as a team is essential to playing good soccer and practice games and scrimmages encourage cooperation and team fundamentals. The players form strong bonds over the course of the season and play with heart, desire, and determination. There is nothing quite as enjoyable as watching the team play on a beautiful fall day in New England!
