In 1944 a new Upper Middler from Watertown, Massachusetts arrived at Andover to study and to play baseball. An outstanding pitcher, Richard Phelps graduated from PA in 1946, went on to Yale and then to a very successful business career while remaining actively interested and involved in athletics. In 1990 Dick made an extraordinarily generous gift to the Academy including funds for scholarships, for a number of campus projects, and, in particular, for the renovation and improvement of the baseball field, which was dedicated in May of 1993 as Phelps Park.

The William H. Brown 1934 Boathouse is situated on the Merrimack River. Dedicated on September 23, 2012, this greatly expanded facility is located a few miles downriver from the school's former facility. Used in both the fall and spring seasons, the new facility has ample parking and plenty of room for housing 8s, 4s, and small boats.

Brothers Field, longtime home of Phillips Academy varsity teams, has been renewed and improved with the construction of Phelps Stadium. Dedicated in June of 2002, Phelps Stadium is a lighted facility with seating for over 2000 spectators and is handicapped accessible. From their locker rooms in the nearby Harrison Rink facility, Andover athletes enter the stadium through the Sorota Tunnel, named in honor of legendary football and track coach, Steve Sorota. Brothers Field is also the game field for lacrosse and field hockey.

The Rosenau Fitness Center, dedicated in 1992, is home to over 20 weight machines, a full set of free weights, stair machines, stationary bikes, rowing machines and a Universal Gym.

Opened in February 2002 and later officially dedicated on June 8, 2002, the Harrison Rink is the home of Andover hockey. This state-of-the-art facility sports two sheets of ice – the Harrison Rink (200' x 94'), which is the main arena with seating for 400, and the smaller but NHL-sized Gurry Rink (200' x 85'). It also includes locker rooms for all four PA hockey teams and visiting squads, plus an athletic training room, spacious lobby and viewing areas, and locker space for teams using the nearby Phelps Stadium during the fall and spring seasons. The facility is utilized year-round for Andover teams, hockey camps, town youth hockey, and ice skating.

The Boys' Varsity Soccer Field is located at the Sorota Track Complex. The playing surface is slightly crowned and 115yds x 75yds in dimension. With an electronic scoreboard and automatic sprinkler system, our facility is one of the best of its kind in New England. Adjacent to the playing field is a training ground with goals and grids for small-sided training activities. The Girl's Soccer Field is located behind Graves Hall and was refurbished in 1998-99. This new field now has a sprinkler system and has been leveled using the latest technology.

Phillips Academy softball calls Isham Field’s two tournament-quality diamonds home. Through the generosity of the Abbot Academy Association, alumnae, alumni, and friends, the main diamond was renovated and named Peter Drench Park in 2014. It sports permanent, fully-equipped dugouts, an additional batting tunnel, bullpen, equipment shed, spacious seating, outfield fence, colorful flagpoles and an electronic scoreboard. The second diamond features smaller bleachers and fewer amenities but maintains an equally fine playing surface.

The new Christopher Lynn ’66 Pool at the Pan Athletic Center offers PA aquatics unique flexibility, functioning as the only full-size water polo course among New England high schools and offering our swimming teams thirteen practice lanes, more than twice the number currently available. For swimming competitions, the pool will be configured to create optimal racing conditions. And we will be able to offer all this programming while simultaneously running our diving and instructional swimming programs.

There are 18 all weather courts in three locations on campus.

The Sorota Track is an 8-lane, all-weather 400m outdoor track with accompanying first-rate field event facilities. Opened in 1988, and redone in June of 2016. It is named after the legendary PA track coach, Steve Sorota and is one of the best track facilities anywhere in New England.
