Victory in Five!
ANDOVER 3 - EXETER 2 (23-25, 25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 15-8)
Thank you to Exeter for hosting us today and for five games of exciting, competitive volleyball! We look forward to hosting you in a few weeks time.
The first set tilted Exeter's way after a good run of serving got them an early 3-6 lead that they would never relinquish. Trailing 17-23, we made a late push, before falling 23-25.
Trailing 7-9 in the second set, Emily Fang scored seven straight service points to give us the lead. Exeter would tie the game at 16, but Maya Rogers scored three straight service points and we hung on for a 25-23 win that evened the match.
After a back-and-forth start to the third set, Rihana Gomez ripped off seven-straight service points to open up an 18-12. That margin provided the cushion we needed to close out the set and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Another tight, back-and-forth set in the fourth! We grabbed a late 21-18 lead, but Exeter showed great resilience to comeback and snatch a 24-22 lead. We came up with a clutch side out to serve at 23-24, but came out on the wrong end of a joust at the net, sending the match to a fifth set.
Early in the fifth, Angelina Vincent served five-straight service points to open up a 10-3 lead for us that proved decisive in the game and the match.
A great team effort today with contributions from everyone on the roster! Kaliah Fortune and Maya Rogers led the attack with strong setting while Jaciel Britton, Zoe Gilbertson, and Angelina Vincent offered consistent hitting. A great defensive effort was led by Rihana Gomez at the net and Tori Dahl in the back row.
We return to action on Saturday for a Family Weekend matchup with NMH... hope to see many of you there!
