GVS brings home season-opening win

Just one week after announcing the varsity roster, GVS hit the road to the Groton School for their home opener. The Zebras came out strong and found their way onto the scoreboard in the first ten minutes of play. Andover kept the offensive pressure on and finally broke through just over mid-way through the first half on a goal from captain Emily Mara '25, assisted by outside back Emily Decker '26.

The second half saw more back and forth play with two offensive-minded teams. Mara pushed the Big Blue ahead 2-1 on a great ball served into the box by defender Lily Keim '25. Groton continued to push in the final third and offensive powerhouse Tyler Martens evened the scored with 11 minutes remaining.

In the final two minutes of play, Wylie Roossien '26 broke in behind the Groton defensive line and while Groton's scrappy keeper made the initial save, front runner Sarah Powers followed up in the box to keep the game out of reach for the host school.

Jackie Dill '27 earned the start in net and earned Player of the Game.

Thank you to our family and friends for supporting us - and great to see some former (and current) faculty members on our sidelines.
