GVS, inspired by family and friends earns exciting 5-0 W

What a great weekend for GVS! On Friday afternoon, GVS welcomed parents, siblings, GVS-friends and team-dogs too - for a spirited FULL team scrimmage. Highlights included goals by 4-year old Hope, great double-trouble offensive play by Madison and Ja-Elle, sister and cousin of Kennedy Smith '22 AND Parent of The Practice, Karen Robinson!

Saturday afternoon, the team returned to Graves for their annual "pink" game for Breast Cancer Awareness. Each player dedicated the game to someone important to them - and shared that person's name with their teammates in GVS' pre-game huddle. Upper-midfielder Lulu Rourke shared beautiful home-made Breast Cancer Awareness bracelets with her entire team (thank you, Lulu/Rourke family!)

Centerback Lola Ademilola '22 notched her first GVS career goal on a corner kick to put the Big Blue on the scored board just minutes into the first half. Midway through the first half, co-captain Myra Bhathena picked up a beautiful ball from Lulu Rourke '23 and blasted a beautiful low shot to the far post the stretch the lead, 2-0 going into the second half.

Captains Myra and Mary Stuart Kerrigan reminded the team that the game was far from over and the team stepped up to the challenge. One minute into the second half, first year phenom drew a PK and captain Mary Stuart placed a beautifully struck ball into the back of the net as a talented NMH keeper dove the opposite way.

Myra struck again in the first 10 minutes of the second half pushing the game out of reach. THEN, with less than a minute left to play Canadian superstar Marie-Eve Marleau brought the crowd to its feet when she blasted a shot from 25 yard out over the head of the NMH goaltender.

Best of all for the GVS squad was that every single teammate earned valuable minutes on Family Weekend - showing us that the future is as bright as the now of GVS21.

The last 10 minutes of play had a field full of the Class of 2021. This group of 12 seniors are the heart and soul of the team: Four year GVS players: Myra and Stu, three year-GVS players: Athalia Esty, Liberty Stam, Emily Kelly, Lily Haik and in their first year with GVS: Marie-Eve Marleau, Kennedy Smith, Esme Huh, Eliza Dow, Tori Darling and Lola Ademilola.

We cannot thank our extended GVS family enough for cheering us on - and an incredible meal at game's end thank to Alicea Family. May everyone enjoy a well-deserved LONG weekend.
