Great team effort on the road earns 3-0 W

GVS travelled to Governors on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon and brought home an excellent, 3-0 win to even their record at 5-5-1.

The team focused on setting the tone from the first whistle and that they did behind an impressive two-goal effort by Lily Haik '22 in the first eight minutes. Haik was assisted on her goals by captain Myra Bhathena '22 and outside back Kate McCool '23. McCool secured the win midway through the second half with a brilliant free kick deep in the corner.

Shout-out to the quality minutes by many GVS players after a great two-days of training. In the midfield, Esme Huh, Emma Robinson, Lulu Rourke, Mary Stuart Kerrigan, Liberty Stam and Jazzy Cormier were critical in maintaining possession and tempo of the game moving forward. As always, the back line of Kate McCool, Athalia Esty, Emily Kelly, Lola Ademilola and Tori Darling showed poise to shut down any dangerous opportunities Govs sought to create. Adding to the wave of offensive attack was Emily Mara '25, Eliza Dow '22 and Marie-Eve Marleau.

Earning her first GVS start of career, AJ Alicia '24 played with great confidence and decision making to securing the shutout.

And while it was a true team effort, tenth grader Jazzy Cormier showed us on the field today what she has been building toward in the last weeks of training - a force to be reckoned with AND Player of the Game.

Thanks to the Alicia family for the special fall treat (cider donuts!!) and as always, our parents, siblings and dogs who follow up wherever we go!
