GVS brings home win on the road v. Middlesex

The Big Blue played their fourth game in eight days and improved to 2-1-1 as they faced yet another top-tier opponent in ISL power, Middlesex School.

Andover got off to a fast start and found their way on the scoreboard in the first five minutes on a corner kick from upper Kate McCool to co-captain Mary Stuart Kerrigan whose always-gritty play inside the box put the team ahead, 1-0. With 14 left in the first half, a blast from 30 yards out was followed up by front-runner Kendall Toth '24 who found teammate Liberty Stam to stretch the lead to 2-0.

With three minutes remaining in the first half, senior Lily Haik hit a stunner of a ball that found its way to the far post and ricocheted to the back of the near post.

The halftime focused on bringing the same intensity to the final forty minutes as Middlesex was clearly inspired to play. The Middlesex players found themselves within one with 22 minutes left to play but the Andover team would not be denied.

The back line of Kate McCool, Mya Ademilola, Emily Kelly, Lulu Rourke, Tori Darling and Mary Stuart Kerrigan played their best team defense to date and Sofia Traversari-Sotomayor was once again fantastic in net.

Lulu Rourke, a two-sport super star, shined bright as Player of the Game.

A huge thanks to all the Andover parents/family members who traveled to Middlesex AND to the Darling family for our delicious treats of orange slices, homemade rice crispie treats and brownies! THEN...Jazzy Cormier's grandpa arrived with apples from Vermont. Also on the sidelines was former GVS captain Leah Humes '12 who is the assistant girls' varsity Middlesex coach (though now on maternity leave with baby Ellery, soon to be another GVS star!). The team's record stands at 2-1-1 as they now prepare for Class A powerhouse Loomis coming to Smoyer on Saturday!
