GVS comes up short against 2019 Class B Champs, Rivers School

GVS played an inspired 80-minutes on Smoyer Field on a warm fall afternoon but fell short as Rivers scored in the 63rd minute to secure the win.

Still - so much to praise for the Big Blue. Lulu Rourke '23 earned a start at left outside back and dazzled everyone with her fierce, smart play - get ready for more of Lulu's amazingness as the season progresses. Emily Kelly '22 continues to lead in the backfield with her confident play and vocal leadership. Earning her second start on the season GK Sofia Traversari-Sotomayor '23 had an important, diving save early in the first half which set the tone for much of the game.

Midfield play was fast and physical and Liberty Stam, Kelly Bu, Emma Robinson, Esme Huh, Tori Darling and Lily Haik all provided valuable minutes.

Other standouts on the day include Kendall Toth '24 at striker who had two great chances, one in each half, and we are confident she will continue to put great pressure on opposing goaltenders and defensive backs. Newcomers Emily Mara '25 and Jazzy Cormier '24 continue to make stellar contributions off the bench. The future of GVS is bright!

Co-captains Mary Stuart Kerrigan '22 and Myra Bhathena '22 inspired us all with their incredible play and unbreakable spirits. "Stu" was named Player of the Game.

Also worthy of mention was the incredible support of GVS teammates not on the field of play due to injury: Athalia Esty and AJ Alicea. Both demonstrated what it means to be a great teammate with their contributions on the sidelines in support of each player. It was also great to see former faculty member, basketball and track coach Lani Silversides on our sidelines.

Thanks to the Kerrigan family for an amazing meal after the game and a shout out to our dedicated managers Chenault, Cathy, Emiliano and Ariana for whom we couldn't "manage" without. Back again to Smoyer on Monday versus another Class B titan, Pingree.
