Senior Day honors Emily, Rachel, Mack, Madison, Maddy, Isabella and Nicola
Senior Day stands out as one of the highlights of every fall season. On this day, we celebrate in a special way our amazing seven seniors: captain Maddy Silveira, captain Rachel Chang, four year-GVS players Madison Bourassa, Emily Hardy and Isabella DiBenedetto, three-year GVS defender Mack Lucas and post-graduate Nicola Sommers. These seven student-athletes are leading the most successful team in GVS history and it is large part due to their passion for the game, their true commitment to their teammates, their non-sibi spirit and the kindness that is the core of who they are.
The Lawrence Academy match-up is always a great one and today was no exception with both teams playing some of the best soccer of the season. Every third of the field shined and in particular, Andover GK (Player of the Game) Emily Hardy and LA goalkeeper Faith Gargano kept the fans entertained with spectacular saves throughout.
All the scoring took place mid-way through the second half of play - LA struck first on a penalty kick which was quickly responded to be an Andover goal off a corner kick. While each team had numerous chances, stellar defensive left the game at 1-1.
What meant the most on this day was the enthusiastic crowd in support of the GVS girls. Parents, siblings, schoolmates and club teammates too lined Smoyer Field. Former GVS GK Alex Farrell '10 - a two time Class A NE Champion '09 and '11 - was also in attendance cheering on the Big Blue as was former GVS defender, Britney Bourassa '17, who was there supporting her sister Madison '20.
The day finished with a spectacular gathering in the Snyder Center with the entire GVS family and beautiful tributes to seniors and coaches. This all could not have been made possible without the incredible support and efforts of our GVS parents. We are filled with gratitude.
