Nicola Sommers scores with five minutes to play to bring final to 1-1 versus Choate
In a highly anticipated match, GVS once again did not disappoint on the road at Choate Rosemary Hall. The game entertained the many fans in attendance as the pace was high as was the spirit of the players. Choate found their way to the scoreboard first mid-way through the first half - and leaving GVS behind at the half for the first time this season.
The Andover girls responded well in the second half and put a lot of pressure on the Choate defense but struggled to capitalize. In the final five minutes of play, junior striker Isobel Glass persisted on the flank and was able to send a perfect cross to PG Nicola Sommers '19 who blasted a volley inside the six to the back of the net.
Emily Hardy, once again, had a top-notch game and certainly kept the game in reach with gutsy saves on numerous Choate free kicks and corners. Mary Stuart Kerrigan, Emma Fogg, Mack Lucas, Karoline Conte, Rachel Chang, Myra Bhathena and Athalia Esty continue to impress with their ability to shut down the most dangerous, fast-paced offensive lines which Choate proved to be.
Kendall Toth provided a spark off the bench and indeed is a player to watch. Once again, our amazing seniors - Maddy, Bella, Nic, Mack, EHardy, and Madison - led the way. Nic, glad to be back home too, earned Player of the Game.
Thanks to all the parents for making the road trip, the DiBenedettos for our delicious food and Choate for being a most accommodating host. The GVS girls remain undefeated at 6-0-2.
