Indoor Season Opens with a Win

The Andover girls’ track and field team opened the 2019-20 season with an impressive victory on their home track with 68 points, easily outdistancing local rivals Andover High (48 points), Governor’s Academy (45.5 points), and Wilbraham & Monson (2.5 points). Senior Victoria Kadiri (’20)led the Big Blue with 14 points, claiming a victory in the shot put (32-10.75) and posting runner-up finishes in both the 55m (7.45) and the Long Jump (16-03.50). Her time in the 55m Dash established a new Andover record, eclipsing Fredericka Lucas’s mark of 7.49 set back in 2018.

Elsewhere, Tessa Conrardy (’20)saw a strong debut to her indoor career, taking second place in the 55m Hurdles in 9.42 seconds before combining with Myra Bhathena (’22)and Athalia Esty (’22)to lead a 1-2-3 sweep of the 300m in a time of 45.37 seconds. Bhathena’s runner-up time of 45.81 seconds also established a new lower record. That same trio would team up with Victoria Darling (’22)to claim victory in the 4x200m relay with a time of 1:56.27.

In the distance events, Esme Huh (’22)and Natasha Muromcew (’22)went 1-2 in the mile, posting times of 5:46.74 and 5:49.10, respectively, while Charlotte Whitehurst (’22)displayed some strong early season form to claim victory in the 2 mile with a time of 11:53.97. Other scoring places on the afternoon came from Caroline Ho (’22)(third in the Long Jump), Kiera Suh (’22) (fourth in the High Jump and fifth in the Long Jump), Sophie Olafimihan (’22)and Kaely Pierre (’23)(third and fourth in the Shot Put), Ava Sullivan (’23)and Neena Goldthwaite (’20)(fourth and fifth in the mile), Sadie Cheston-Harris (’20)(third in the 600m), Esty(fifth in the 55m), Isabella Alvarez Martinez (’23)(second in the 2 mile), and the 4x400m relay team of Whitehurst, Huh, Cheston-Harris, and Alvarez Martinez (second).
