Competitive game yields a win
After a loss against St. Pauls, Andover’s JV Field Hockey bounced back with an enthusiastic win over Middlesex at home. Middlesex started the game off aggressively similar to St. Paul’s, but Andover shut down their attacks with solid defense with control over the grass field. Andover finally broke through with an opportunity to drive the ball down the field late in the second quarter, and Maddie E. ’28 slammed in a goal off a quick cross pass from Abi N. ’27. Riding this momentum, Andover’s offense sprinted up the field yet again and Abi N. ’27 shot the ball into the back of the net less than two minutes after the first goal. Middlesex responded with a goal of their own, but Andover kept the pressure up and Mwaita N. ’28 tapped in a third goal to start the final quarter. Middlesex regrouped and scored their second goal of the game, but by then Andover had chipped the clock down and drew out the clock with smart defensive play. Standout players today included Alex H. ’28 with incredible defensive stops and clears, Izzy W. ’28 with a huge presence and skillful control of the midfield, and Ashley S. ’27 with relentless attacks up the left wing.
