Andover wins season opener on the road at St. Paul's

Big Blue won their season opener against St. Paul’s on the road today. The dual meet started at 113 lbs, where Arnav Bhakta ’22 pulled off a close 6-5 victory to put Andover on the right track. Freshman Colin Nugent made his Andover debut at 138, where he won a 6-2 decision over his opponent. Co-captains Marisol Nugent ’20 and Eamon Garrity-Rokous ’20 both scored first-period pins. Andover lost the next 3 bouts and was down by 3 team points, but heavyweight Thomas Radzik ’20 landed a first-period pin, and put Andover in the lead 33-30. The wrestler of the meet was Riggs McGrath ’21, who had a thrilling come-from-behind 5-4 victory. This is the first dual meet win for Head Coach Archambault ’06. The Big Blue wrestlers are now preparing for the “Battle of the Andovers” on Saturday, taking on Brooks, Andover High School, and North Andover High School. Wrestling begins at 3 pm.
