Andover wins first home meet of the season

Andover wins their first home meet of the season over Wilbraham & Monson Academy, 51-30. At 285 lbs Byron Johnson ’25 put Andover’s first win on the board with an exciting 5-1 victory over his opponent. There were several forfeits to follow, and then 132 pounder co-captain George Ryckman ’24 pinned his opponent in 46 seconds. At 138 lbs Magnus Julin ’25 went into the second period trailing by one point, but he was able to put his opponent to his back and secure the pin by the end of the second period. At 144 Ethan Principal ’24 took charge with a 31 second pin. Andover lost the next two bouts, but was able to pull out the victory with a 51-30 score.

The exhibition matches were just as exciting as the varsity matches! Lisa DeBoer ’26 had a come from behind pin in the last seconds of her match, fighting off of her back in the first period and never giving up. Ophelia Lee ’26 followed suit with a third period pin of her own, after outscoring her opponent 10-3. Jacob Honor ’27 defeated his opponent 5-0, who withdrew due to injury. Cyrus Signan ’25, Aden Huwang 26, Winston Wall ’25, and Henry Hansen ’26 all had exciting matches as well. We’ve learned a lot as a team in these few weeks, but we still have a long way to go!
