Andover goes 2-2 in last dual competitions of the season

Andover went 2-2 today at the Seabrooke Duals, hosted by Exeter. In the first dual over the day Andover took on Hopkins. At 106 Serra Akyali ’28 opened the dual meet with a second period pin, after scoring a take down, two sets of nearfall, and a reversal. At 113 Julian Rios ’26 pinned his opponent in 36 seconds. Andover won the next two by forfeit, taking the lead 24-0, before losing the next two bouts. At 144 Magnus Julin ’25 pinned his opponent, making the team score 30-9. Andover lost the next five matches, but with a forfeit at 215, and a pin from Sebastian Haferd ’25 at 285, Andover was able to reclaim the lead and win the dual 42-39. Andover went 3-0 in exhibition matches against Hopkins, with pins from Murphy ’25, Akyali ’28, and Park ’26.

Andover had a tough loss against Northfield Mount Hermon. We didn’t win a single match, but won four of the bouts by forfeit, so the team score was 24-57.

In the third dual of the day Andover took on Brooks. At 120 Brady Haskell ’28 pinned his opponent in 16 seconds; and Tasha Bohorad ’26 followed suit at 126 with a first period pin. At 138 Dani Nugent ’25 battled it out to win 6-3, and at 144 Magnus Julin ’25 had an inspiring come-from-behind pin to give Andover the lead 24-6. Andover lost the next five matches. At 215 Sebastian Haferd ’25 pinned his opponent, and with three forfeits at 285, 106, and 113, Andover edged out the victory over Brooks, 45-36. In an exhibition match Fumi Kimura won a hard fought match 9-8.

In the final dual of the day Andover took on St. Sebastian’s. Hambardzumyan ’26, Haferd ’25, Akyali ’28, Rios ’26, and Haskell ’28 all earned pins for Big Blue, but it wasn’t enough to secure the victory, and Andover lost 36-44.

Andover improves its season record to 9-7. This concludes our dual meet season. Next weekend we compete at the Northern New England Invitational at the Hyde School.
