Andover Boys place 2nd, Girls 1st in Friday night race

The Andover Nordic team travelled to the Weston ski track for a Friday night race under the lights against several Massachusetts prep schools. Middlesex and Rivers hosted a great race with a 4.4km course as well as a 2.2km course for beginners.

Racing first, Sam Gallaudet and Remy de Saint Phalle from Andover quickly built up a lead and kept it finishing 1st and 2nd for the second race in a row. Nico von Eckartsberg finished 21st as the third scorer. Overall, the boys finished 2nd as a team behind Belmont Hill, beating out Rivers, Middlesex, and Berkshire.

In the girls race, Claire de Saint Phalle and Hannah Justicz followed the same playbook as Sam and Remy, as they took an early lead and kept it to finish 1st and 2nd. Amelia Vinton also had a strong race in 6th place. Newcomer Sage Preston rounded out the Andover scoring in 8th place. Georgia Hornsby and Sammie Shim were 10th and 11th in the longer race for the Andover squad. Overall, Andover took 1st place as a team ahead of Berkshire, Middlesex, and Rivers.

In the shorter beginner race, Emily Skoutas took first place and Sophia Aalami second. Yasmine Tazi was 5th in her first race ever.

Next week, the Andover team hopes to continue the strong start to the season at Proctor.
