On the road vs. Pelicans

BVS traveled on Friday night to play against the always-disciplined Pelicans of St. Paul’s. On that day, the home team started its Family Weekend celebration. This presented a psychological challenge to BVS. They had to hit the field look past the Pelican supportive crowd and impose their game on the home team. Fortunately, the BVS team was well-prepared and took the field as if they had slept well, eaten their arugula salad, carbs, and hydrated all night the evening before the game. The energy displayed on the field was a true delight to watch. Collectively, the team played some of its most incredible soccer, and those watching enjoyed the team moving the ball well and using space effectively.

On that day, Jack Alexander was excellent on goal and organized his back four with great clarity. Garrett Holman and company continue to deliver defensively and have only allowed one goal in the last five contests. This is a testament to the tightness and support the group lends to one another. In the midfield, Alex Torrens, Zane Matraji, and Ellis Denby were electric all evening and dominated the contest from beginning to end. Off the bench, Kai Myles contributed with great minutes and so did Ryan Lam, Marc Nelson, Rafiq Kasumov, Alvin Liu, Everett Woo, and Jonathan Bu.

On that day, they also celebrated Peter Elliot’s Birthday and wished Alex Coman was there too to celebrate his as well, but he was unable to attend. However, in spirit, he was there with them and they always have him in their hearts. Goals were scored by Paul Gichana, who continues to play incredibly well, Kai Myles, Rafiq Kasumov, Alex Torrens, and Candem Willems, whose vertical leap got us another one on the evening.

Overall, BVS put forth a solid effort on both ends of the field, and the boys look forward to continuing to improve. Thank you to all those who came to support them. They hope to see you on Monday as they take on the St. Sebastians on Smoyer field.
