Winter Season Restarts in the New Year & 15 teams travel to Choate
Girls' Varsity Squash was victorious at Choate
This past Saturday, 15 Andover teams traveled to Choate Rosemary Hall and returned home with NINE wins: GV Squash, GJV and BJV Squash, GV Hockey, Varsity Wrestling, Boys’ and Girls’ Swimming and Diving, GJV and BJV hockey! Across all contests on the day, Andover demonstrated great effort, teamwork, and spirit.
SOME of the highlights from Saturday include:
Boys’ swimming, coached by David Fox, David Gardner, and Nate Bagonza, celebrated two Choate Pool Records set by: Daniel Seong ’25 in the 100 breaststroke and Brian Lee ’25 in the 100 Butterfly. Big Blue Divers David Frahm ’26 and Kayla Safarikova ‘27, coached by Belinda Wolf, each finished first on the day!
GV Hockey earned the win on the road thanks to a game-winner in the final minutes of play by Lilly McInerney ’26 and strong goal-tending by ninth-grader Marie Lee ‘28.
Wrestling coached by Kassie Bateman, Jason York, Chip Dunn, and Rich Gorham and captained by Julian Rios, Bodhi Beroukhim, Dani Nugent (pictured, top), and Eva Murphy won their first dual meet of the 2025 season. Earning wins for the Big Blue Serra Akyali ’28 (by pin); Christian Robinson ’28 (forfeit); Brady Haskell ’28 (by pin) his opponent, Dani Nugent ’25 ( 11-10 decision) James Bae ’26 (forfeit) Sean Flynn ’27 (by pin), Nick Lima ’25 (forfeit) and Sebastian Haferd ’25 (by pin).
GV Squash coached by Shaun Duffy brought home the victory thanks to wins by Isabella Tang ’28, Minnie Kim ’27, captain Migyu Kim ’25, Selene Xu ‘27, and captain Ellie Israelov ’26.
The JV Squash team also emerged victorious with wins from Evelyn Kung, Baily Xu,
JV captain Ella Kowal, Danielle Han, and Sophia Tabibian.
Thanks as well to our athletic trainers (see pic below) who made the trip to Wallingford CT: Mike Kuta, Devin O’Reilly, and Abe D’Onofrio as well as equipment managers Corey Paolillo, and Randy Castillo in support of our teams...and to Karen Kennedy, Robin Volpone, and Lisa Buckley who supported the efforts from campus.
