Big Blue Shout Outs

Girls' & boys' cross-country, coached by Keri Lambert, Patrick Rielly, Jeff Domina, Garrett Richie, Laura Dzubay, Austin Campbell, Andrew Cheng , and Dan Schneider , and captained by seniors Tam Gavenas, Jakob Kuelps, Luke Francis , and Emma Hagstrom opened their season yesterday at the Manchester (NH) Invitational at Derryfield Park.  Captain Tam Gavenas crossed the finish line first amongst all runners with an incredible time of 15:24.8!

Shout out to boys' water polo coached by David Fox, Hillary Kavanagh, Dale Hurley, and Winston Leong and captained byseniors Zach Godsey and Jason Kokones who traveled to Loomis Chaffee on Saturday afternoon for an exciting two-game match-up AND two wins on the day, including a 7-6 thriller over Deerfield Academy.

Captains Godsey and Kokones as well as lower Austin Stern each tallied two goals in the win.  On Wednesday, the water polo teams traveled to Phillips Exeter and split the day - with the varsity squad falling short to a strong Exeter top group and Andover's JV coming home with a bit 14-3 victory over the Big Red!

JV football coached by Gene Hughes, Tom Fritz, Chris Capano, Allen Grimm, and Jake Montanaro opened their season with a thrilling match-up with St. Sebastien's with the Big Blue falling short in the final play of the game...and yet, so many "wins" for the team including the following email received from the game-day official:

"I just wanted you to know that I have been doing games at Phillips for over 40 years. Everyone is always pleasant, respectful & friendly. I am always provided a chain crew... always very capable. However, yesterday they were very special. I have never met 3 nicer young students in my life. So friendly & asking me all kinds of questions about rules, games I have done & great players I have seen.

In this day & age where officials are yelled at & treated poorly it is so refreshing to have them working with me. The school should be very proud of them."

Shout out to our JV football chain crew:

Ronal Dominguez Hernandez '28, Christian Robinson '28 and Andres Clariond '27.
