Eight Phillips Academy seniors celebrated the signing of their NCAA National Letters of Intent (NLI), committing to continue their athletic careers at scholarship granting institutions.

There were two different gatherings, one in the Snyder Center's Title IX room and another outside, as family, friends, teammates, and coaches joined the signees in-person and virtually to mark the occasion.

The Andover athletes who signed their NLIs this fall include two lacrosse players: Kennedy Everson ’21 (Montclair, NJ) Duke University, Isabela Miller ’21 (North Andover, MA) College of the Holy Cross, and six baseball players: Jonathan Santucci ’21 (Leominster, MA) Duke University, Jack Penney ’21 (Wakefield, MA) University of Notre Dame, Matt Sapienza ’21 (North Andover, MA) Georgetown University, L.J. Keevan ’21 (Holden, MA) University of Massachusetts Lowell, Sebastian Mexico ’21 (Baldwinville, MA) Fordham University, and Eric Giarnese '21 (Dudley, MA) Assumption College.

Congratulations to Kennedy, Jack, Matt, Isabela, Jonathan, Eric, L.J., and Sebastian for signing their National Letters of Intent. Despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus, I was thrilled that we were still able to find ways, in-person and virtually, to celebrate their achievement. Sharing the celebration with the parents, grandparents, siblings, coaches, friends, and teammates who have contributed so much to the success of these student-athletes was essential. As college acceptances are finalized later this year, we look forward to recognizing all of the other Andover athletes that commit to continuing their careers in college.

Please Note: The NCAA Division 1 Ivy League and United States Service Academies do not participate in the NLI program, nor do NCAA Division 3 institutions. In addition, many Andover student-athletes receive merit-based scholarships and are recruited to join teams at their colleges and universities. The Phillips Academy Athletic Department plans to gather and celebrate the accomplishments of all of our non-NLI student-athletes in the spring.
