Phillips Academy celebrates National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD), an annual event dedicated to honoring the achievements of female athletes and advocating for gender equity in sports. Founded in 1987, NGWSD serves as a tribute to Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman and has since grown into a nationwide movement that inspires girls and women to realize their full potential through physical activity.
Created by the Women’s Sports Foundation, the day focuses on several core objectives, including empowerment, recognition, and advocacy. The initiative encourages lifelong participation in sports to build confidence, strength, and character while celebrating the accomplishments of female athletes, coaches, and leaders. Additionally, the day serves as a platform for promoting the protection of Title IX and advancing gender equity across all levels of play.
