(Andover, MA) – Members of the Andover Boys’ Swimming & Diving Team devoted their summers to a variety of endeavors.

In early June, Andy Xu ’19 traveled to Washington, DC in recognition of his being named among the 12 USA Math Olympiad winners this year! (https://math.andover.edu/2018/... the Canadian Junior National Swimming Championships, Yubo Jin ’21, competing in the 14-15 age group, placed 5th in the 100 Breast (1:07.73) and 11th in the 200 Breast (2:31.54). Incoming captain Neil Simpson ’19, in the 16-18 age group, placed 7th in the 100 Breast (1:05.91), 4th in the 200 Breast (2:22.88), and 4th in the 200 IM (2:08.94). At the meet, Neil and Yubo were joined by Max Hunger, who will join Andover’s Class of 2020 next month. Max placed 6th in the 200 Free (1:56.30) within the 16-18 age group.

Jacob Hudgins ’19 and Rick Ono ’19 competed in the Under 19 age-group at the United States Rowing Club Championships in July. Jacob rowed 4s (Bronze Medal) and 8s (Silver Medal). Rick rowed both, too, and placed 5th in each.

Across a variety of competitions, swimmers achieved best times. Sam Donchi ’20 qualified for Winter Junior Nationals in the 200 Fly (2:06.91) and achieved best times in the 100 Free (54.34), 200 Free (1:57.19), 400 Free (4:14.88), 100 Back (1:01.32), and 100 Fly (57.50). Jack Warden ’19 had best times in the 50 Free (24.52), 100 Free (54.37), and 100 Fly (57.85). Marcus Lee ’21—who trained with Arnold Su ’20 and Hank Yang, who will join Andover’s Class of 2022 next month—had best times in the 50 Free (25.04), 100 Free (54.43), 200 Free (2:00.30), and 100 Breast (1:08.19).

By placing 5th at the Olympic distance in the 17-19 age group at the USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships, Anthony Minickiello ’20 qualifies for the 2019 Age Group World Championships in Switzerland. Zack Peng ’21 performed well at the Zone diving competition, missing nationals by only one place.

At a Speedo Sectional meet, Lance Freiman ’19 achieved best times in the 50 Free (24.22), 100 Free (52.99), 50 Fly (25.34), and he qualified for the US Summer Junior National Swimming Championships in the 100 Fly. At Juniors, he swam a best time of 56.19.

Arnold Su '20 also qualified for Junior Nationals by swimming the 100 Breast in 1:05.64. At the meet, he achieved best times in the 50 Free (24.23) and the 100 Free (52.55).
