The fall edition of the Andover-Exeter rivalry once again delivered the drama and excitement that have characterized the storied matchup. Exeter was, once again, an amazing host, and both fan bases created an atmosphere of passionate support. The day's final record was deadlocked, with two wins, two losses, and one tie for each Phillips. Andover’s two victories, field hockey and girls' soccer, came via shutouts.
The girls' soccer team secured a decisive 4-0 win. The squad's success in the series is long-running, having last lost to the Big Red in 2005. The win was their sixth straight in the rivalry, and fourth straight shutout.
Field hockey was dominant on its way to a 7-0 triumph. Phillips Academy field hockey's last loss to Exeter was in 2013, and yesterday's win was its eleventh consecutive in the series. The streak has included six shutouts.
The day's tie came from boys' soccer, whose match concluded in a spirited 1-1 draw, the same result as last year's clash. Andover struck first, carrying a 1-0 lead into halftime before Exeter managed an equalizer in the second half.
On the volleyball court, the girls' team showed impressive tenacity down to the very last point in a 1-3 loss. After dropping the first set, Big Blue rallied for a convincing 25-18 win in the second to tie the contest. Exeter ultimately secured the following two sets for the victory; nonetheless, the atmosphere and competitiveness of the match, much like that of the boys' soccer game, were certainly an A-E highlight.
In the 144th iteration of the rivalry football game, Exeter prevailed 48-16. The Big Red's win extends its recent streak in the series to five games, which follows Andover's preceding streak of eight consecutive victories.
