GXC Wins over Deerfield and Remains Undefeated in Dual Meets this Season
Phillips Academy Girls Cross Country claimed another decisive win this weekend, beating Deerfield Academy 17-42. Andover swept the top four spots and placed seven in the top ten. PAGXC is now 5-0 this season (excluding Invitationals).
The weather was rainy and the course, which looped around several fields, was soft and muddy at points. Still, Charlotte Whitehurst '22 set a new course record and claimed her third individual win of the season.
The team overall had a great day. Seven of the thirteen athletes who raced set season-best 5k times. Izzy Alvarez Martinez '23 managed to take 39 seconds off her time last week. Izzy finished on the heels of teammate Caroline Empey '22, who set her fourth personal record of the season, taking a full 18 seconds off of her time last week. Emma Hagstrom '25 had another strong showing this week, placing fourth for the team and setting a new season-best time.
The team has some excellent momentum heading into the final weeks of the season. Next Saturday 11/6, PAGXC will face off against Exeter in a dual meet at home, and the following Saturday 11/13, Andover will host about twenty schools for the 2021 NEPSAC XC Championships.
