Two Decisive Victories over NMH and Winsor
Family Weekend was a great success for Andover Girls Cross Country! The team remains undefeated at home after claiming victories over Northfield Mount Hermon (15-50) and Winsor (20-41) on Saturday 10/23.
Seventeen of the twenty Phillips Academy students who toed the line on Saturday set season best 5k times, and the team placed 8 runners in the top 10.
Senior Elizabeth Zhang '22 managed to reduce her time from the last home race (10/9) by a full 78 seconds to set a new P.R. of 22:03 (10th place overall). Junior Emma Hagstrom '25 likewise had a breakthrough race, traversing the course in 21:47 (8th place overall), a full 50 seconds faster than her time earlier this month.
Charlotte Whitehurst '22 fell just short of claiming the individual win, taking 2nd place after being stride for stride with Winsor's top runner from the very start. (The two racers will have a final season standoff next month at the league championship on 11/13.) Four more Andover athletes-- Tiffany Tang '22, Patricia Tran '24, Caroline Empey '22, and Izzy Alvarez Martinez '23-- followed in Whitehurst's wake, claiming 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th place respectively.
The team was extremely grateful to have the support of family and friends across the course this Family Weekend. Next Saturday 10/30, PAGXC will travel to Deerfield Academy to try to defend its undefeated dual meet streak. That race will take place at 1pm.
