PATF Claims 1st With Many Strong Performances at Second Home Meet of the Year
With warm and sunny conditions at last, Phillips Academy Track & Field (PATF) seized the day and posted many terrific performances to claim 1st for boys and girls at our second home meet of the season this Wednesday 4/16 against Landmark and Austin Prep.
Out of 32 events contested, PATF won 21 overall, with four of those wins secured by underclassmen Hannah Jung (1500m), Henry Zimmerman (3k), Caitlin Ly (100m), and Tyler Baty (400m). Two PATF athletes--Amelia Alvazzi and Caitlin Ly--set new class records in the 800m (2:17.47) and 100m (12.23) respectively. And in eight events, PATF performed better than we did at any point last Outdoor season in those same events, pointing to the strength, depth, and breadth of the program this season.
Overall, the girls' team won with a score of 87 (over AP's 78 and Landmark's 1) and the boys' team won with a score of 98 (over AP's 46 and Landmark's 16).
Perhaps most impressive over the course of the day was PATF's senior class. Nine seniors in particular stood out for their excellent performances:
- Arashi Hunter ran a terrific 1500m / 800m double, breaking 4-minutes in the 1500m for his first time ever (3:58.08) and then doubling back to run a speedy 1:55.91 in the 800m on tired legs.
- Darren Donovan added nearly a foot to his long jump PR with a huge jump o 19'1".
- Naima Reid took more than a second off her 400m PR with a second-place finish in 1:01.57.
- Sophia Cratty threw three consecutive PRs in the discus to finish with a new personal best of 67'.
- Jakob Kuelps broke 2:00 on the 800m for his first time, earning a full 2-second PR in a time of 1:59.79.
- Darielys Almonte jumped over 15' two weeks in a row, this week taking 2nd place overall with her jump of 15'.5"
- Max Langhorst raced his way to a 16 second PR in the 1500m this week after running a 30 second PR in the 3k last week.
- Grant DeHoog threw over 120' in the discus to lead a 1st-2nd-3rd-4th PATF sweep in that event, and he also scored in the shot put, throwing close to his personal best in both events.
- Russell Robinson ran a quarter-second PR in the 100m for a time of 11.29 followed by a 1-second PR in the 200m with a time of 23.37, all after also running a strong anchor leg in the 4x100m to take the win in that event.
PATF is looking forward to our next meet on Saturday 5/3, when we will be on the road for the first time this season to compete against Loomis, NMH, and Avon Old Farms.
