GVS rallies for 3-1 win over Lawrence Academy
The Big Blue showed up in a big way for their final regular season game on Phelps Stadium versus Class B powerhouse, Lawrence Academy. While Andover held possession for much of the first half, Lawrence would find themselves on the scoreboard first with nine minutes remaining in the first half.
Determined to come out even stronger in the second half, GVS continued to press forward leading to nine second half corner kicks - two resulting in goals. At the 59th minute, co-captain Emily Decker found sophomore Ashley Dimnaku inside the six for the first score and four minutes later, Decker found classmate Sarah Powers to take the lead.
Co-captain Wylie Roossien kept the game out of reach with an unassisted blast outside the 18 in the 68th minute.
It was an incredible team effort with a special shout-out to Player of the Game Ashley Dimnaku in the midfield. That said, we always honor our seniors at their final home game and have so much gratitude for all Emily Decker, Wylie Roossien, Lola Aguirre, Mura Daisley and Sarah Powers have given to our program over their 18 collective seasons on GVS. Thank you to our families for Halloween treats and all our Big Blue fans for your spirited support. GVS extends their record to 10-4-3 with their eye now turned to the season regular season finale versus Phillips Exeter.
