GVS kicks off season with Win
The 2023 season kicked off on a strong 2-0 win on Smoyer Field.
Andover backs Ava Davey '25, Keaghan Murphy '27, Emily Decker '26, Kendall Toth '24 and Lily Keim '25 as well as new senior GK Jill Reichenbach did a great job securing the shutout. Reichenbach had seven saves on the day.
The Big Blue created a number of early offense chances and a lot of pressure in the final third of play but didn't find the back of the net until the final ten minutes of play in the first half. Senior Hannah Jordan sent a perfect cross to senior captain Jazzy Cormier on the far post who put the team on the scoreboard. Minutes later, sophomore Wylie Roossien and junior Lily Keim combined for a spectacular finish by Keim from the top of the box.
Junior captain Emily Mara and sophomore midfield Lola Aguirre also had strong showings for the Blue.
Thank you to our parents, friends and teachers who came out in the rain to support us - and for the delious treats at the end of the game. GVS was also excited to welcome back former GVS 4-year standout Katie Kreider '14 who is now the head coach of Groton Soccer. Coach Kreider is assisted by Coach Ryan Spring, also an Andover grad. Next up - Andover hits the road next Wednesday to play Middlesex School. We also look forward to the return next week of teammates Hayden Fischer and Sarah Powers who have been sidelined with injury.
