GVS wraps up 6-games on the road, 5-0-1 following 3-1 win over Governors

Taking their game back on the road, Andover focused on taking early control of their Wednesday match-up. In spite of high pressure for a speedy Govs front line, the Andover defense was able to hold Govs at bay. Six minutes into the game, senior Nicola Sommers found speedy front runner on transition for the first goal of the match. Govs striker June Stephens countered midway through the first half with a well-struck ball past the Andover keeper, Emily Hardy.

The Andover girls continued to play their game and responded to the Govs strike with one of the most beautiful goals of the season. Isobel Glass attacked the Govs defender with speed while teammate Lily Haik made a tremendous run off the weak side. Glass laid off a perfect pass that beat the defender and the approaching Govs goalie and Haik showed tremendous composure blasting the ball into the back of the net to stretch the lead to 2-1.

Andover came out focused in the second half and persisted in their attack. Nicola Sommers earned her second assist of the day on a beautiful ball to Glass who kept the game out of reach.

Sophomore Mary Stuart "Stuey" Kerrigan was named Player of the Match. Thanks to our GVS parents who follow us field to field with support and great food!
