GVS jumps into 2019 season with 2nd Annual New England Prep College Showcase

Andover traveled to FC Stars Complex in Lancaster, MA on Sunday morning to compete against 2018 Class A semi-finalist Buckingham Browne and Nichols in a preseason scrimmage. Thirteen returning varsity players joined eight new teammates for an exciting morning of soccer, led by captains Maddy Silveira and Rachel Chang. The team welcomes newcomers Sofia Travesari Sotomayor, Kendall Toth, Lillie Cooper, Athalia Esty, Liberty Stam, Lily Haik and PG Nicola Sommers.

After a high-paced and strong forty minutes of play, the game was knotted at 0-0. Andover struck first in the second half. GK Emily Hardy pulled down a BBN corner kick, clearing the ball to midfielder Anna Hurley who transitioned the ball quickly to striker Maddy Silveira. Silveira showed great poise 1 v 1 with the keeper to put the Big Blue ahead.

BB&N kept the pressure on in the second half and found the back of the net to knot the game at 1 midway through the second half.

Player of the Game went to upper back Emma Fogg who showed great poise and confidence over eighty minutes of play. Following the game, the girls celebrated the 16th birthday of their new teammate Lily H at Kimball Farms. Thanks also to the Conte family for providing the girls bagels and drinks!

Anothehr highlight of the morning was presenting GVS' donation of school supplies to Louisa Gebelein Jones from Pomfret School. All school supplies donated will be sent to the GoldenEd Foundation in Ghana.

Check out our home opener versus Groton School on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. on Smoyer Field.
