GJV2 Soccer Nets a Win at Deerfield

GJV2 soccer traveled to Deerfield on Saturday with many other Andover teams. The game was a very close matchup with control going back and forth and both teams having numerous scoring chances. The first half ended at 0-0 as goalie Rosie Juma turned back all the Deerfield shots and the defense of Chloe About-Ezzi Murewa Biyi-Olaoye, Anielia Jones, Izzy Park, Niki Tavakoli, and Destiny Zhuwao held a strong line to keep Deerfield chances to a minimum. In the beginning of the second half, Andover created several scoring chances with forwards Gabby Kawooya, Jeanne Kosciusko-Morizet, Sarah Samoluk, and Kelly MacKinnon all getting shots on goal, but Deerfield's keeper turned each attempt back. Jump was challenged with several strong shots as well, but turned each one back. Throughout the game, the rotation of Emily Ney, Maddie Lehman, and Alastriona O'Donnell were constantly battling for control in the center midfield and passing the balls out to the wings. The relentless play of wings Kyla Zorrilla, Maggie Agosto, Nina Torrens, and Ophelia Lee kept the pressure on all second half until Agosto launched a high shot from outside that the Deerfield keeper couldn't get a handle on to break the tie with 10 minutes to go in the game. Three minutes later, Sarah Samoluk slammed home a powerful shot from the edge of the box to put Andover up 2-0. Andover's next game is Friday at home against Pingree.
