Big Blue goes 2-1 at "Battle of the Andovers"

Big Blue goes 2-1 at the “Battle of the Andovers” on Saturday at North Andover High School, defeating Brooks School 42-30 and North Andover High School 41-27, and falling only to Andover High School 24-45. The first match was against Brooks, and Thomas Radzik ’20 (285), Marisol Nugent ’20 (145), Riggs McGrath ’21 (160), and Eamon Garrity-Rokous ’20 (170) all scored pins for Phillips, bringing the final score to 42-30. In an exciting exhibition match, new wrestler Zee Zerega ’23 pinned their Brooks opponent in the second period. In the second dual meet Big Blue took on Andover High School. Nick Buehler ’21 (220) and Arnav Bhakta ’22 (113) both scored pins. Colin Nugent ’23 (132) won a technical fall 17-2 over his opponent and Eamon Garrity-Rokous ’20 (170) won an exciting 15-4 major decision, but it just wasn’t enough to put Big Blue over the top. Unfortunately three forfeits put PA in the hole, and we dropped the dual 24-45 to Andover High School. Big Blue was not deterred. In the third meet of the day, Marisol Nugent ’20 (145) excited the crowd with a technical fall 19-3 over her opponent. Somen Chakrabortti ’22 (152), Eamon Garrity-Rokous ’20 (182) and Nick Buehler ’21 (220) all pinned their opponents to give Phillips the 41-27 victory. The team is now 3-1 for the season, and hosts their first home meet on Wednesday against Wilbraham & Monson Academy.
