Andover has 2 champions and takes 2nd as a team

Today 11 members of Team Abbot traveled to St. Paul’s School for their 3rd annual girls tournament. Leading the way was Dani Nugent ’25, winning the 138 lb weight class with less than 2 minutes of wrestling; her longest match lasted 52 seconds. Serra Akyali ’28 made her Andover wrestling debut in dominant fashion with three pins to secure first place in the 100 lb weight class. In her final match, she was winning 13-3 before securing the pin in the third period.


Destiny Covington ’26 also made it to the finals. She pinned her first two opponents in the first period before falling to her opponent from Nobles in the finals, taking 2nd place at 235. Tasha Bohorad ’26 took 3rd place in the 126 lb weight class (which featured 4 Andover wrestlers!). She defeated her first opponent from Choate 15-5; she fell in the quarterfinals to the eventual champion, and came back to win 3 matches in a row for her 3rd place finish. One of those matches included an exciting Double OT match against teammate Ophelia Lee ’26, which Tasha won 9-8. Ophelia Lee ’26 took 5th place; she defeated her St. Paul’s opponent in the quarterfinals, but fell in the semifinals to a tough opponent from Scituate. In the consi-semis she fell to her teammate, and in the 5th place match she defeated her teammate Grace Kim with a first period pin. Grace Kim ’27 placed 6th at the tournament; she won her first match by pin over her Nobles opponent, before losing the next three matches to claim 6th.

At 165 lbs Bella Shmuylovich took 3rd place. She won her first match with an 8 second pin, before falling in the semifinals to the eventual champion. She rallied with two more pins to secure 3rd place. At 138 lbs Cindy Zhou made her Andover wrestling debut and won her first match with a 43 second pin over her opponent from Nobles. She then fell in the semifinals, but rallied in the consolation-semis with a 24-10 major decision, before placing 4th. Alessandra Woo ’27 also placed fourth in the 107 lb weight class; she lost her match in the semifinals, but came back with a 16-5 major decision in the consi-semis. She had an exciting back-and-forth place match, before losing to her Exeter opponent and placing 4th.

Also competing well for Andover were Lisa de Boer ’26 and Angelina Zhang ’27.
