Rios '26 wins his 100th match in first dual of the season

Andover went 1-1 today in our first varsity dual meets of the season, away at. St. Paul’s School. Andover first took on Northfield Mount Hermon. While Reese York ’26 opened the dual with an inspiring pin over his opponent at 138 lbs, Andover lost the next eight matches. At 106 lbs Margaret Tsien ’26 won by forfeit, improving Andover’s team score to 12-42. At 113 lbs Devin Akyali ’29 won his varsity debut with a dominant pin, and at 120 Julian Rios ’26 secured his 100th career win with a technical fall 15-0. At 126 Brady Haskell '28 pinned his opponent, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap with NMH, and Andover lost the dual 29-48.

In the second dual meet of the day, Andover took on host school St. Paul’s. At 144 and 150 David Siahaan ’27 and James Bae ’26 each won by forfeit; Andover lost the next four matches to trail 12-22. At 215 Shock Ingram ’26 pinned his opponent, and at 285 Geza Labancz ’26 had an exciting pin to launch Andover into the lead, 24-22. At 106 Margaret Tsien won by forfeit; and then Andover won the next four matches by pin, with wins from 113 Devin Akyali ’29, 120 Julian Rios ’26, 126 Brady Haskell ’28, and 132 Narek Hambardzumyan ’26. Andover won the dual meet 54-22 and our current season record is 1-1.

In exhibition matches, Kierra Ong ’29 won her first ever match by pin. Tasha Bohorad ’26 won her match by technical superiority. Matthew Lam ’28, Declan Paraguya ’29, Oliver Rogers ’28, Cindy Zhou ’27, Christian Robinson ’28, and Bella Shmuylovich ’26 all won their matches by pin.
