3 individual champs at Northerns
Although a number of our teammates have been hit with illness or injury at this point of the season, eleven wrestlers traveled to the Hyde School in Maine to compete in the Northern New England tournament. As a team we came in 3rd place out of 10 schools. Leading the way was co-captain Julian Rios ’26, who had a 34 second pin and a 22 second pin on his route to victory. At 285 Geza Labancz ’26 had a dominating performance as well, with a 1:07 pin and a 2:44 pin to win his bracket. Devin Akyali ’28 had three first period pins to become tournament champion at 113.
Five other Andover wrestlers also placed. At 113 Christian Robinson ’28 had a 32 second pin, and an 11-4 decision in the semifinals, before falling in the finals to his teammate and placing 2nd. At 132 Narek Hambardzumyan ’26 won an 18-2 technical fall in the quarterfinals, and a 15-7 major decision in the semifinals, before falling in the finals and placing 2nd. At 190 lbs Shock Ingram ’26 also went 2-1 and placed 2nd, with a first period pin in the quarter finals and a 7-1 decision in the semifinals. At 285 Ollie Rogers went 3-1, with a 23 second pin in the quarterfinals, a 14-3 loss in the semifinals, followed by two more pins to earn 3rd place.
