Andover crowns 4 champions
Fifteen Big Blue wrestlers traveled to the Hyde School in Bath, ME for the Northern New England Invitational Tournament. The team had four individual champions and eight other placers.
Julian Rios ’26 was our first champion of the day at 113 lbs, with a seven second pin and a thirteen second pin to clinch the victory. At 120 lbs Brady Haskell went 3-0 with a 22 second pin; a pin in 1:19, and 24 second pin to win his first high school tournament. At 138 lbs Daniella Nugent ’25 went 3-0 with a 34 second pin, 10 second pin, and a 12-0 major decision. At 215 lbs Sebastian Haferd ’25 went 2-0 with a nine second pin and 27 second pin to win his first tournament.
At 106 lbs Christian Robinson ’28 went 2-1 to take second place in his first ever tournament. He won his two matches with a 19 second pin and a 14-5 major decision.
At 126 lbs Narek Hambardzumyan ’26 went 4-1 to place 3rd. He won his first two matches by pin; he lost in the semifinals but rebounded consolation semifinals with a 20-4 technical fall and won his 3rd place match by pin. At 132 lbs Caleb Beroukhim ’27 went 5-1 to place 3rd. He won his first match by pin, but lost in the quarterfinals to the eventual champion. He won his next three matches by pin, and won his 3rd place match in a 14-2 major decision. At 138 lbs Reese York ’26 went 3-1 to place 3rd. He won his quarterfinals match by pin; he lost in the semifinals, and then won his next two matches by pin.
At 190 Konnor Fortini ‘28 placed 4th; he won his first match by forfeit. He lost in the semifinals to the eventual champion. In the consolation semifinals he won a 6-3 decision, but lost his final match to place 4th.
At 144 Magnus Julin ’25 went 2-2 to place 5th. He lost his first match in the quarterfinals. He won his first match in the consolation round 16-1 technical fall. He lost in the consolation semifinals, but won his 5th place match by pin. At 157 Sean Flynn ’27 went 4-2 to place 5th. He lost his first match, but won his next three matches by pin. He lost the consolation semifinals, but then won his final match by pin to place 5th. At 190 lbs Nick Marini went 1-2 to place 5th.
At 120 Ophelia Lee ’26 went 3-3 to place 6th. She won her first match 12-6; she lost in the quarterfinals, but then won her next two matches by technical fall and pin to guarantee a top 6 placement. She lost by pin in the consolation semifinals, and lost her final match 1-8 to place 6th.
Also competing well for Andover were Tasha Bohorad who went 1-2; David Siahaan who went 0-2; and Sean Choi who went 1-2.
