Rios makes the finals; Team Abbot takes 2nd in Girls Division

Day 2 of Nationals: At 106, Julian Rios '26 won an exciting 5-4 decision in the semifinals over his Gilman School opponent. This was a rematch from Beast of the East that Rios lost in December, but he was prepared and ready to avenge the loss this weekend. In the first period he scored a takedown with two near fall points; in the third period he got the escape to advance to the finals. In the finals he lost to the one seed from Wyoming Seminary. Julian is only the second ever Andover wrestler in the boys' division to advance to the National Prep finals. He is now a 2x National Prep placer.

In the girls' division, Team Abbot maintained their second place team finish on day 2. At 107 Suhaila Cotton '24 lost a tough 11-2 major decision to her Lake Highland Prep opponent to place 4th. This is Suhaila's first time placing at the National Prep tournament, and her first time as All American.

At 114 Sakina Cotton '24 scored a takedown in the first period; a reversal in the second period and pinned her opponent to place 3rd. This is Sakina's 3rd time placing at the National Prep tournament, and she is a 3x All American.

At 138 Daniella Nugent '25 took on the #2 wrestler in the country in the finals. She earned two escapes and a reversal, but ultimately lost the match 4-7 to her opponent from Wyoming Seminary. This is Dani's 3rd time in the National Prep finals and on the National Prep podium.

At 165 Toni Elliott '27 fell in the finals to her opponent from Wyoming Seminary. This is Elliott's first time placing at the National Prep tournament and her first time as All American.

This concludes our wrestling season. We are so proud of all of our athletes for the progress they've made, and we wish our seniors well.
