Andover goes 1-1

Andover went 1-1 today at home. The Big Blue first took on Hyde School. We won five weight classes by forfeit (106, 113, 132, 215, 285). At 120 and 126 Julian Rios ’26 and Brady Haskell ’28 each won with quick pins. At 138 Caleb Beroukhim ’27 won a 10-3 decision, and at 144 Reese York ’26 earned a pin in the second period. At 157 James Bae won with a quick 11 second pin. At 190 Shock Ingram ’26 won by technical fall 16-3, securing the dual meet win for Andover 61-18. In an exhibition match, Ophelia Lee ’26 won by pin.

Against Roxbury Latin, at 106 Serra Akyali lost a tough 3-7 decision against a strong opponent. At 113, 120, and 126 Devin Akyali ’29, Julian Rios ’26, and Brady Haskell ’28 all won with first period pins, giving Andover the lead 18-3. Andover unfortunately lost the next four matches. At 157 James Bae ’26 won by technical fall 19-3, closing the gap 23-26. Andover lost at 165, but at 175 Andretti Candelario ’28 had an exciting pin. Unfortunately we lost the next two bouts by pin, and even a pin from Geza Labancz ’26 at 285 couldn’t overcome the deficit, and Andover lost the dual 35-44.

In exhibition matches against Roxbury Latin, Christian Robinson ’28, Willy Park ’26, Bella Shmuylovich ’26, Konnor Fortini ’28, Daniel Rhee ’29, Serra Akyali ’28, and Devin Akyali ’29 all won by pin.
