Andover wins varsity dual and girls meet
For the first time in recent history, the wrestling team was able to participate in the Winter A/E program, as our schedule usually has us competing at the National Prep Championships during A/E weekend. The team traveled to Exeter and opened the day with the first ever girls varsity dual, with Team Abbot taking on the Exeter girls team. At 235 lbs Toni Elliott ’27 recorded a 26 second pin, and at 107 Serra Akyali ’28 recorded a 57 second pin. At 132 Ophelia Lee ’26 won an exciting 7-3 decision. At 138 Cindy Zhou ’27 pinned her opponent in 2:58. At 145 Dani Nugent ’25 won by forfeit, and at 165 Bella Shmuylovich ’26 lost a tough 4-7 match in overtime. Team Abbot won the dual 27-3.
In the varsity dual meet we lost the first match at 190, but Exeter forfeited the next two weight classes to us to give us a 12-6 lead. At 106 lbs Christian Robinson ’28 won by technical fall 17-0. At 113 Serra Akyali ’28 won by forfeit, and at 120 Julian Rios ’26 recorded a 17 second pin. At 126 Brady Haskell ’28 won by forfeit, and at 132 Caleb Beroukhim ’27 pinned his opponent in 3:30. At 138 Dani Nugent ’25 had an exciting match that ended with a third period pin, and at 150 Bodhi Beroukhim ’25 recorded a 59 second pin. Andover lost at 144, 157, 165 and 175, but still won the dual meet 53-25.
Andover also won five of the six exhibition matches we wrestled. Fumi Kimura ’25 won a 12-7 decision; Narek Hambardzumyan ’26 pinned his opponent in 2:53; Tasha Bohorad won a 12-3 major decision; Ophelia Lee ’26 won an 11-2 major decision; Gentry Thatcher ’27 pinned his opponent in 5:51; Reese York ’26 won by major decision 15-3.
Andover ends the season with a 10-7 dual meet record. Go Big Blue!
