Rios is 3x Class A champion; 7 other top 4 placers in Prep division
Twenty three wrestlers traveled to Northfield Mount Hermon on Saturday to compete in the Class A league championships. Fifteen wrestlers competed in the Prep (co-ed) division, and eight wrestlers competed in the Girls Division.
Co-captain Julian Rios ’26 led the way with two pins en route to victory at 113 lbs. He is now a 3x Class A Champion and qualifies for the New England Championships next weekend. At 120 lbs Brady Haskell ’28 also had an impressive showing, with two pins to advance to the finals, where he lost a tough 7-10 battle to his opponent from NMH. Brady placed 2nd and qualifies for New Englands. At 150 lbs co-captain Bodhi Beroukhim ’25 entered the tournament as the 3 seed. He pinned his opponent in the quarterfinals, and pinned his Exeter opponent in the semifinals, before falling in the finals to NMH. Bohdi placed 2nd and qualifies for New Englands. At 106 Serra Akyali ’28 went 2-1, winning her matches 3-0, a 19 second pin, and then lost in the finals to her opponent from Choate. Serra placed 2nd and will compete at New Englands next weekend.
At 138 lbs co-captain Dani Nugent ’25 pinned her opponent in the quarterfinals in 13 seconds; she lost a tough 17-5 major decision in the semifinals, and then rallied with a pin and a 7-5 decision to place 3rd. Dani will compete in New Englands next weekend. At 215 Sebastian Haferd ’25 went 2-2 to place 3rd; he won his two matches by 9 second pin and 13 second pin. He qualifies for New Englands.
At 157 lbs James Bae ’26 pinned his opponent in the quarterfinals, before losing in the semifinals to the eventual champion. Bae won by pin in the consi-semis, but then lost in the place match to his opponent from Exeter. James places 4th and qualifies for New Englands next weekend.
At 165 Nick Lima ’25 went 1-2 to place 5th. At 157 Sean Flynn went 1-3 to place 6th. At 106 Christian Robinson ’28 went 0-3 and placed 4th. Also competing well for Andover were Reese York ’26, Magnus Julin ’25, Oliver Rogers ’28 and Caleb Beroukhim ’27.
The team placed 3rd overall in the Prep Division.
In the Girls Division Tasha Bohorad ’26 led the way with two pins and a technical fall to become champion at 132 lbs. At 185 lbs Toni Elliott ’27 had three quick pins to become champion, and in an exhibition match against the 165 lb champion she also won by first period pin.
At 126 lbs. Ophelia Lee ’26 had two pins en route to the finals, where she had to forfeit due to injury. Ophelia placed 2nd. At 145 Eva Murphy went 2-2 to place 4th. Also placing 4th were 107 Alessandra Woo, 138 Cindy Zhou, and at 152 Lisa DeBoer placed 3rd. Also competing well for Andover was Grace Kim at 120 lbs.
Andover placed 2nd overall in the Girls Division.
