Rios '26 places 3rd at Beast of the East tournament

Four Andover wrestlers competed in the boys division of the prestigious Beast of the East tournament in Delaware this weekend: Julian Rios ’26, Bodhi Beroukhim ’25, James Bae ’26, and Brady Haskell ’28. There were over 60 nationally ranked wrestlers entered into the tournament, including Rios ’26, who was ranked #8 at 106 lbs earlier this month.

Co-captain Julian Rios ’26 went into the tournament as the 4 seed. There were 8 nationally ranked wrestlers entered at his weight class, the most of any weight classes in the tournament. (Rios is ranked #8 nationally at 106 lbs). Rios dominated his first three matches by pin or technical fall, advancing to the quarterfinals on day 2. He won his quarterfinals match in a 4-3 decision, advancing to the semifinals, where he lost 1-6 to the eventual champion, the #1 nationally ranked wrestler at his weight class. Rios rallied in the consi-semifinals with a 4-2 decision to advance to the 3rd place match, where he won 14-4. Rios went 6-1 on the weekend and came home with a 3rd place trophy. He improved upon his placement from last year, when he placed 6th at 106 lbs. Rios was the only wrestler from National Preps to place in his weight class.

At 120 Brady Haskell ’28 went 1-2; at 150 Bodhi Beroukhim ’25 went 0-2; at 157 James Bae ’26 went 0-2. As a team Andover finished 79th out of 150 teams.
