9 wrestlers compete at Battle on the Bay

Nine Andover wrestlers traveled to Tabor Academy to compete in the annual Battle on the Bay tournament.

In the girls’ division, Julia Carmona ’24 wrestled in possibly the toughest bracket of the tournament, facing 3 nationally ranked opponents and taking 4th place. Tasha Bohorad ’26 pinned her opponents from Eagle Hill and Governor’s, before falling to her tough NMH opponent in the finals and taking 2nd place.

In the co-ed division co-captain George Ryckman ’24 led the way with a 3rd place finish. In the round of 16 he pinned his Lexington Christian opponent in 43 second. In the quarterfinals he fell to his Choate opponent. In the consolation bracket, he pinned his Brooks and Exeter opponents to advance to the 3rd place match, where, in a rematch against his Choate opponent, he secured the victory with a pin.

At 144 lbs, Ethan Principal ’24 drew an unlucky first match and lost to the eventual champion. In the consolation round he rallied, defeating his Exeter opponent 3-2, pinning his St. Sebastian’s opponent, and defeating his Wilbraham and Monson opponent 7-4 to advance to the 3rd place match, where he pinned his Hopkins opponent to secure the victory.

At 138 lbs Magnus Julin ’25 went 2-2, with wins over Pomfret and BB&N; at 285 Byron Johnson ’25 went 1-2, with a win over Thayer. Also competing well for Andover were Elliott Chung ’24, Jacob Honor ’27, and Winston Wall ’25.
