Andover goes 1-3 at Avon Holiday Duals
The Big Blue traveled to Avon, CT for the Avon Holiday Duals. Andover was in a pool with three tough teams: Trinity Pawling, Choate, and Brunswick. We started the day with Trinity Pawling. At 157 lbs Bodhi Beroukhim ’25 had an exciting back-and-forth match with a returning New England placer, but ultimately lost 9-12. We lost the next five matches. Serra Akyali ’28 was the first to put team points on the board for Andover at 106 lbs, with a first period pin. At 113 and 120 Julian Rios ’26 and Brady Haskell ’28 also pinned their opponents, improving the team score to 18-38. Despite one more pin from Narek Hambardzumyan ’26 at 132 lbs, Andover fell to Trinity Pawling 24-53.
Andover took on Class A opponent Choate in the second dual. At 157 co-captain Bodhi Beroukhim ’25 started Andover off with a pin. At 165 Sean Flynn ’27 won by forfeit, and at 175 Nick Lima ’25 pinned his opponent, giving Andover an 18-0 lead. At 215 Matt Byun ’28 won his first varsity match by pin. At 113 co-captain Julian Rios ’26 won by tech fall 17-0, and at 120 Brady Haskell won by pin over a returning New England placer, giving Andover the lead 35-23. Unfortunately that was the last match Andover won, and Choate was able to make up their deficit and Andover lost 35-46.
Against Brunswick Andover lost the first five matches, and again Serra Akyali ’28 was the first to put team points on the board for Andover with a quick pin. At 113 co-captain Julian Rios ’26 earned another quick pin, and at 120 Brady Haskell won by technical fall over another returning New England placer 17-0, bringing Andover’s team score 17-30. Unfortunately Andover didn’t win any more matches, and lost to Brunswick 17-62.
In the 7th place match Andover faced Suffield Academy. At 215 lbs Matt Byun ’28 won by pin with a nice cradle; at 120 co-captain Julian Rios ’26 won by pin; at 138 Caleb Beroukhim ’27 won a major decision 12-3; at 157 co-captain Bodhi Beroukhim ’25 won by pin, and at 165 Sean Flynn ’27 won by pin. Andover also won several forfeits, and ultimately won the dual meet 64-11.
Andover’s record is now 1-4. On Wednesday the team travels to Wilbraham and Monson for the final dual meet before winter break.
