Andover goes 2-2 at Avon Holiday Duals

Andover was on the road for the Avon Holiday Dual Tournament. Andover was in Pool A with NMH, Avon Old Farms, and Nobles. In the first match of the day Andover went up against returning Class A Champions NMH. Andover lost at 285, won by forfeit at 106, and lost the next two bouts at 113 and 120. At 126 Tasha Bohorad won by disqualification, as her opponent incurred too many technical violations, and Tasha earned 6 team points. At 132 George Ryckman ‘24 pinned his opponent, giving us a tie team score at 18-18. Andover lost the following match, but at 144 Dani Nugent ’25 defeated her opponent 6-3, and the team score was 21-24. Andover won by forfeit at 150, and took the lead 27-24. Unfortunately Andover lost the next 5 bouts and fell 27-53 to NMH.

In the second match of the day Andover took on the winged beavers of Avon Old Farms. At 106 lbs Julian Rios ’26 kicked off the dual meet with a 23 second pin. 113 Sakina Cotton ’24 followed suit with a second period pin of her own, and at 120 Eva Murphy ’25 had an inspiring major decision 15-7 over her opponent. We lost the next match at 126, but then 132 George Ryckman ’24, 138 Ethan Principal ’24, and 144 Dani Nugent ’25 all earned pins for the team, advancing the team score to 34-6. Andover lost the next three matches, but then at 175 Nick Lima ’25 came from behind to pin his opponent, and then team score was 40-21. Andover lost the next three bouts, and narrowly won the dual meet by 1 point, 40-39.

In the third match of the day Andover wrestled Nobles. Andover won the dual meet 48-31. Captain George Ryckman ’24 pinned his opponent in under a minute; at 157 James Bae ’26 had a back and forth battle with his opponent, but eventually secured the pin with less than 40 seconds left in the match. At 285 Byron Johnson ’25 battled it out for a second period pin.

Since Andover went 2-1 in Pool A, we wrestled Trinity Pawling, who went 2-1 in Pool B, for 3rd place. At 120 Eva Murphy ’25 lost a tough battle in overtime 5-7. We lost the next 2 bouts, and at 138 Ethan Principal dug deep to pull out an 8-6 victory, finally putting some team points on the board, 3-12. At 144 Dani Nugent ’25 won by pin, and at 113 Sakina Cotton ’24 won by forfeit, but we lost the rest of the bouts, and Andover lost the dual 15-52. In exhibition matches, Magnus Julin ’25 won by pin.

Also in an exhibition match 106 Julian Rios ’26 wrestled against the Hopkins School 106 pounder and won by pin in the first period.

Andover is now 3-2 in the dual meet season.
