Andover loses home opener

Wednesday December 11, 2024, St. Paul’s L 33-41, 0-1

Today we hosted our home opener, and our only home varsity dual meet of the season. As such, we celebrated the class of 2025 today. Our senior co-captain, Dani Nugent ’25, opened the dual meet with a dominant first period pin to put the first team points up on the board. Unfortunately Andover lost the next two bouts, and we trailed behind St. Paul’s 6-10. At 157 James Bae ’26 had an excited major decision, which he won 17-4, which tied us back up with St. Paul’s 10-10. At 165 Nick Lima had a dominant technical fall with a score of 19-4, and Andover took the lead 15-10. Andover lost the next three matches, but then new wrestler Oliver Rogers ’28 made his varsity debut with a second period pin to close the gap, as Andover trailed 21-25. We lost at 106, but then Julian Rios ’26 and Brady Haskell ’28 both had quick pins at 113 and 120 respectively, giving Andover the lead 33-31. Unfortunately we lost the next two matches, and therefore lost the dual meet 33-41, but it was an exciting start to the season!

We also wrestled 15 exhibition matches after the varsity dual meet. Kami Zheng ’28 won her first ever match with a 7-6 decision; David Siahaan ’27 won his first ever match with a first period pin. Grace Kim ’27 went 2-0 with a pin and a 13-1 major decision over her opponents. Also earning pins in their exhibition matches were Cyrus Signan ’25, Oliver Rogers ’28, and Tasha Bohorad ’26.

On Saturday we travel to Avon Old Farms for the Avon Holiday Dual tournament!
