9 pins for Big Blue in last dual meet of the season
Andover improved it’s dual meet record to 5-5 when the team travelled to the Marianapolis Knights on Saturday for a dual meet. 9 individual wrestlers earned pins for the Big Blue. Sakina Cotton ’24 opened the dual at 106 lbs with a second period pin, after scoring 5 points in the first period. George Ryckman ’24 had a challenging match at 113; he fought off of his back at the end of the first period to pin his opponent at the start of the second period. Glen Cahilly ’23 and Arnav Bhakta ’22 followed up with two more first period pins. Later in the meet, Theo Kim ’23 (152 lbs) and Nick Lima ’25 (170 lbs) earned their first varsity wins, also securing pins. Miles Palmer ’23, Josh Espinoza ’25, and Adrian Morrison ’23 also pinned their opponents. Andover won the dual 72-12.
In exhibition matches, Andover won all 7 matches with a pin. Arjun Shah ’25 pinned his opponent in the first period. Robert Simkus ’25 also pinned his opponent in the third period, after leading 9-4. Jonas Gianonni pinned his opponent in the first period. Charles Vest ‘25, after leading 11-7, pinned his opponent in the second period. Julia Carmona pinned their opponent in the second period after leading 7-0, and Sakina Cotton pinned her opponent in the third period after outscoring her opponent 10-0. In the last match of the day, Dani Nugent ’25 pinned her opponent in 43 seconds with a powerful headlock,
This concludes our dual meet season. Next weekend the varsity team travels to Exeter for the Class A league tournament (interschols). At this tournament, the top 4 placers in each weight class qualify for the New England Championships.
