Boys Come away with Three Wins as Gavenas ('25) Sets Course Record

The Phillips Academy boys' cross country team welcomed Austin Prep, NMH, and St. Paul's School to Andover for the first home meet of the season, and after some excellent racing, BXC came away with three wins.

The highlight of the day was the brilliant running of captain Tam Gavenas ('25) who broke the course record in a stellar performance. Only eight other boys have held the course record since its inaugural 1990 season, and Tam's spectacular race this afternoon set the new standard. Arashi Hunter ('25) chased Tam on his way to his own excellent showing, taking second overall for Big Blue. Next in, a good pack of PA runners--Luke Williamson ('25), Charlie Gillick ('27), and Robert Budzinski ('26)--pushed each other to strong times to take fourth, fifth, and sixth overall. Captain Luke Francis ('25) and Arun Kapoor ('25) worked together on the Lawn to finish inside the top ten. Andover Varsity wins, 15-50 v. AP; 15-48 v. NMH; 18-45 v. SPS.

On the JV side, Henry Zimmerman ('27), Magnus Julin ('25), and Sebastian Lemberger ('25) finished within seven seconds of each other in a great pack. Another strong pack followed that finished within three seconds of each other: Max Langhorst ('25), Sami Tokat ('26), Elliot Weir ('26), and Nathan Neu ('26). Big Blue saw 23 personal best times on the day in a fantastic mid-season showing for the team.

Phillips Academy cross country returns to action on Saturday, 10/26, when Exeter, Deerfield, and St. Paul's will travel to Andover for a quad meet.
