Gavenas ('25) Wins Manchester Invitational as BXC Makes Season Debut
PAXC opened its season at the Manchester Invitational, one of the premier high school cross country invitationals in New England. Competing in four races throughout the day, BXC raced 39 runners--16 donning the Blue for the first time--who competed extremely well in large, competitive fields.
The performance of the day came in the final race of the meet, the boys' Varsity large school race, featuring 36 teams and 249 runners. Andover's Tam Gavenas ('25) crossed the line before them all, taking the lead early on and extending it throughout the newly-redesigned 5K course at legendary Derryfield Park. Following Gavenas's stellar performance, BXC saw Luke Williamson ('25), Robert Budzinski ('26), and Charlie Gillick ('27) finish within 25 seconds of each other in strong season opening races. Following that group, Sebastian Lemberger ('25) and Luke Francis ('25) moved up significantly from their positions in the opening mile to finish strong for Big Blue. Andover took 7th as a Varsity team.
BXC's JV squad had an excellent outing as well, taking 4th as a team (out of 41). The JV group was paced by Henry Zimmerman ('27) and Magnus Julin ('25), who finished within 10 seconds of each other, both inside the top 15 overall.
