Young runners lead BXC to 5th in Varsity, 4th in JV at Black Bear Invitational
BXC continued its season Saturday at the Black Bear Invitational, hosted by Coe-Brown Northwood Academy. The varsity squad ran a hard race, placing 5th out of 19 teams. They were led by Cameron Butler ('28), who ran a 20-second season best of 17:17, followed by ninth graders Lincoln Strandberg ('30), who ran a personal best of 17:47, and EJ Montero ('30), who made his 5k debut in 17:53, followed three seconds later by Devin Akyali ('29). Captain Henry Zimmerman ('27) rounded out the varsity scorers with a 31-second season best of 18:11, followed by Aaron Blanchard ('28) in his season debut (18:15) and newcomer Gabriel Arroyo Cisneros ('30) in his 5k debut (18:19). Sebastián Vermut ('27) and Darin Young ('29) rounded out the varsity 9 with times of 18:47 and 18:53, respectively. Darin Young's time was a personal best by 1 minute and 37 seconds.
The boys JV squad also had a strong outing, placing 4th out of 18 teams, thanks in part to a strong leading effort from Alessandro Reverdito ('29), who came in 8th overall with a time of 18:46. Teddy Frangakis ('27), Kalis McCoy ('29), Benedict Dwyer ('28), and Russ McLaren ('27) rounded out the scoring pack, all finishing under 20 minutes. The JV squad also hosted a number of personal bests (PBs) and 5k debuts:
