Gunga downs Pelicans

Andover, MA - On a mesmerizing evening, The Big Blue hosted the Loomis Chaffee Pelicans at Phelps Stadium. BVS had the great support of its home crowd and took the field with high energy. The visiting Loomis team was also determined to win, and the first few minutes of the game were frantic, with both teams fighting for every ball to gain an advantage. However, the home team settled into the game first and scored two quick goals, proving enough to earn the three points. The first goal came after nine minutes of play when Ellis Denby '24 took a short corner kick that Zane Matraji '24 timed perfectly to score. The second goal also involved Ellis Denby '24, who served a free kick that Julian Gravereaux '24 flicked over the goalkeeper. The rest of the game was a battle, with both teams creating numerous chances. Big Blue's defense, led by Jack Alexander '25 in goal and a solid back four line composed of Garrett Holman '24, Julian Graveraux '24, Sebastian Mejia-Rivera '25, and Alex Coman '24, shut down all the visitors' threats. Alex Torrens '24 dominated the midfield and was fantastic in his defensive space and ability to distribute forward. Overall, the Big Blue displayed a great show in front of its home crowd and looks forward to taking another step forward next week against Austin Prep. The supporters who attended the game were appreciated, and the team hopes to see them next time on Smoyer Field.
